Moving along in our cruise around the wonderful world of fruity decorating we come to the beautiful bendy banana.

The comedy hero of the fruit world, bananas are variously slapstick, suggestive and nonsensical.

Yet at least one banana manages to take itself very seriously.

It’s the one that decorates what is among the world’s most iconic album covers: The Velvet Underground and Nico. No-one could accuse The Velvet Underground of taking themselves lightly yet Andy Warhol’s banana trumpets their songs about drug abuse, sadomasochism and sexual deviancy.

Perhaps they were just being super-ironic.  Or perhaps they felt in need of all that health-preserving fibre, potassium, manganese and vitamin C so helpful in relieving hangovers!

Is your favourite thing about the banana the tropical smell?

No problem. You can paper your house in this scratch ‘n’ sniff wallpaper from Flavor Paper (no, honestly).

Or if you’re already feeling festive, decorate your tree with this peeled banana bauble from the Conran shop (they also have strawberries, prawns, ice-creams, aubergines and hot dogs if you’re all banana’d out.)
